Almi Tankers obtains ISO 22301 Certification!

Almi Tankers is proud to announce that it was certified with ISO 22301 by Lloyd’s Register. ISO 22301 is the international standard for Business Continuity Management Systems (BCMS). It provides a framework for organisations to plan, establish, implement, operate, monitor, review, maintain, and continually improve a documented management system to protect against, and reduce the likelihood of disruption of the organisation’s operation due to unexpected calamities or incidents.

The CEO, Cpt. Stylianos Dimouleas, thanked and congratulated the team for this success: “This prestigious certification demonstrates our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of operational resilience and ensuring that our services remain uninterrupted even in the face of unexpected challenges and disruptions.

Our journey towards ISO 22301 certification reflects our active progress and dedication to continuous improvement. It is a significant milestone that complements our existing certifications in Environmental Management (ISO 14001), Quality Management (ISO 9001), Energy Management (ISO 50001), Information Security Management (ISO 27001), and Occupational Health and Safety Management (ISO 45001).

Each of these certifications underlines our holistic approach to delivering exceptional services while prioritising safety, health, environmental protection, sustainability, quality, security, energy efficiency and the well-being of our employees and stakeholders. Achieving the ISO 22301 certification is a testament to our robust risk management practices and our ability to ensure business continuity with the four R’s tenet: Respond, Recover, Resume and Restore, which is crucial in the dynamic and VUCA world in which the shipping industry operates.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated team, whose constant effort and commitment have made this achievement possible. Their hard work ensures that we not only meet but exceed the expectations of our clients and partners.

As we celebrate this accomplishment, we are excited about the future and look forward to continuing to set industry standards in operational excellence and resilience.”

Almi Tankers made a significant donation to support the victims of the Thessaly plain floods through ‘Synenosis’

Almi Tankers joined the initiative by ‘Synenosis’, the Greek Shipowners’ Social Welfare Company to collect 50 million euros to support the region of Thessaly after the devastating storm “Daniel” in September 2023. Thousands of people lost their homes and businesses completely, while others suffered extensive damage, requiring long and costly rehabilitation work. The start of the school year was impossible for tens of thousands of children, while the affected municipalities were trying to restore children’s access to school in different time frames, depending on the damage suffered in each area. At the same time, a large number of dead animals were recorded, while an epidemiological crisis already occurred, with many cases of gastroenteritis and respiratory infections. The floods dealt a huge blow to livestock and agricultural production not only for the region but also for the whole country.

The President of the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS), Melina Travlos, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (December 2023) with the Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation, Christos Staikouras, and the CEO of the Company “Ktiriakes Ypodomes S.A.” Athanasios Giannaris for the restoration of all damaged schools in Thessaly and Central Greece, which were seriously affected by the recent catastrophic floods. The signing of the Memorandum at the Ministry was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure & Transportation, Nikos Tachiaos, the President of the BoD of “Ktiriakes Ypodomes S.A.,” Timoleon Katsipos, as well as the Vice-President of the BoD of UGS, Michael Chandris and the Treasurer of the BoD of UGS, John Xylas. The President of the UGS, Melina Travlos, mentioned during the signing that UGS and Greek shipping has been a supporter of education and they are proud to undertake the restoration of all 33 schools which were affected. This is the first project to be effected with part of the donation, more projects to follow with the remainder of the Union of Greek Shipowners donation.

Almi Horizon receives Rescue Award

We are proud to announce that Almi Horizon’s Master and Crew were presented with the ‘Special Rescue Award’ by the USCG and the International Propeller Club during the Amver Awards 2023 on December 15.

Almi Horizon was recognised and celebrated for the rescue operation provided 80 nautical miles southwest of Punta Abreojos, Mexico, on January 26, 2023.

The CEO, Captain Stylianos Dimouleas, communicated: “I feel very proud to share with you the attached award. A big Bravo to Master Zuzic and the crew of M/T Almi Horizon at that time. But also to all our seafarers as I am confident that they would do the same thing under any circumstances to ensure the safety of life at sea.”

Almi Tankers completes Starlink installation on board all fleet vessels

In September 2023, Starlink was installed on board Almi Navigator during her drydock and after a trial period it was decided to go forward with installation for the entire fleet. The installation was completed within 2 months aboard the remaining 12 fleet vessels, the last vessel being Almi Voyager.

Starlink Maritime, an Elon Musk-led venture under SpaceX with approximately 3,300 low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites currently circling the planet at around 550 kilometers, presents a groundbreaking departure from traditional VSAT systems. Starlink delivers high-speed, low-latency internet both in-motion and while anchored. The on board Starlink connection will complement the company’s existing VSAT networks which encompass Fleet Xpress connectivity.

Almi Tankers IT Manager, Theofilos Vetsikas commented: “Crew welfare is one of our company’s priorities, and we always seek new ways and technologies that will improve our seafarers’ stay on board and make them feel more comfortable. We started this journey in 2016 with the Installation of ‘Fleet Xpress’ and we continue now with the installation of Starlink. Starlink will provide high quality internet connectivity to our people on board, similar to terrestrial speed. Communication with families and beloved persons will be much easier, streaming services will be available online as well as other online services. Apart from our seafarers’ satisfaction, we are going to use the bandwidth capabilities that the Starlink system provides for the better monitoring of our vessels and the improvement of other services already in place (Electronic Charts & E-NP updates, File Synchronisation etc.) as well as our IT infrastructure support.”

Almi Tankers awarded Certificate of Excellence from HiLo

In July 2023, Almi Tankers was awarded a Certificate of Excellence ‘for being a trendsetter and industry leader in sharing data for effective risk analysis and empowering the organization to proactively mitigate risks for its fleet and seafarers.’

HiLo’s industry-first, world-leading decision support system saves lives at sea. Its purpose is to identify and eliminate issues on the vessels that could lead to maritime disasters.

Over 55 companies with 3500 vessels share their data with HiLo in return for life-saving insights . HiLo specialises in Maritime safety, Risk analysis and Innovative technology and they collect and analyse data from many sources including incident management systems, audits and equipment.  (https://www.hilomrm.com/)

In the 4 years that Almi Tankers has been a part of Hilo and having been benchmarked against the whole tanker and crude fleet, Almi Tankers has been found to have:

-With regards to navigation risk, for collisions, allisions, and grounding UDE risk and associated LE, ‘Almi Tankers operates with a vastly lesser risk than the rest of the tanker fleet. Whilst the UDE and LE risk of the tanker and crude fleet continues to rise very slowly, Almi’s continues to reduce slowly.’

-approximately 25% less UDE (Undesired Events)

-approximately 25-30% less LE recorded (Leading Events)

-Other risks, e.g Accident during personnel transfer, LOCP steam in the Engine Room, Ill health & Criminal/ security risks etc. the comparison to the rest of the tanker and crude fleet shows Almi Tankers carrying approximately 1/3 of the risk the main fleet has.

Captain Stylianos Dimouleas, CEO shared:   “We use the statistics to improve our understanding of the facts and eventually manage and minimise all the risks related to any incident.   Well done to the whole team, we always remain committed to Safety and Operational Integrity. We will continue to work with HiLo towards our common goal, an incident free industry.”
