Further fleet expansion

Almi Tankers S.A. is to enter the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) market with 2 newbuildings from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME). The 2 VLCCs, each with a total deadweight tonnage of 320,000 MT, are to join the Almi Tankers S.A. fleet in November and July 2013 respectively.
Along with the existing 2 Aframax LR2 vessels and the 10 Suezmax DSME newbuildings confirmed in 2009, the 2 VLCCs will further demonstrate the modern nature of our fleet, and will bring the average age of our vessels to just 1.07 years in 2013. This will make the Almi Tankers S.A. fleet one of the youngest in the industry.
The vessels were designed to satisfy all relevant regulations, both current and foreseeable, and with constant consideration for the needs of our clients and our environmental obligations as a company.

Almi Tankers S.A. takes over the management of M/T Almi Star.

In line with the set business plan, Almi Tankers S.A. steadily moves towards the fulfillment of its long term goal of growing into a reliable tanker management company characterised by its operational integrity.  The second vessel of the fleet, Almi Star, came under the umbrella of Almi Tankers’s Technical Management on the 4th of March 2010.Almi Star, is an LR2 fully coated aframax tanker which had been purchased from the Teekay group in May 2009 and her Management trusted to Teekay Shipping Limited for a period of nine months. Almi Star is a 2005 DSME built fully coated aframax tanker flying the Liberian flag, classed under Lloyd’s Register. She is holding a “Safety Management Certificate” issued also by the Lloyd’s Register on behalf of the Flag Administration. She is capable of carrying clean petroleum products (CCP) as well as crude oil. Almi Tankers S.A. under “Investors in People” process

The Management of Almi Tankers S.A. has initiated the process of assessing and reviewing the company’s practices with the aim of achieving recognition according to the “Investors in People” standard(link opens in new window).This standard in combination with the ISO-9001, ISO-14001 and OHSAS-18001 is expected to further reinforce a solid management structure for a company like Almi Tankers S.A. which wants to be characterized by its operational integrity and provide reliable services to its customers.
One of the three pillars on which the fulfillment of Almi Tankers’s Mission is based, is the employment of experienced, well qualified and highly motivated people ashore as well as aboard the vessels. The Investors in People accreditation is expected to pave the path for this pillar to be secured in place and reinforced as necessary. 

Almi Tankers S.A. takes over the management of M/T Almi Spirit.

On December 26th 2009 Almi Tankers S.A. took over the management of its first vessel, Almi Spirit, an LR2 fully coated aframax tanker. She had been purchased from the Teekay group in May 2009. For the following eight months her management had been entrusted to Teekay Shipping Limited. During this period, Almi Tankers S.A. made all necessary preparations and obtained all approvals, certifications and accreditations to be able to start managing oil tankers. Almi Spirit is a 2007 Hyundai Heavy Industries built fully coated aframax tanker flying the Liberian flag, classed under DNV and since December 25th 2009 holding a “Safety Management Certificate” issued by Lloyd’s Register. Fleet Expansion

Almi Tankers S.A. is pleased to announce that its fleet will be expanded by the addition of 10 Suezmax tankers of about 158,000 DWT to be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME). The vessels are scheduled to be delivered between December 2011 and November 2013 and will be built to the highest industry standards.
The vessels are designed in accordance with the latest regulations and industry requirements in order to satisfy our customers’ needs. Special emphasis was placed on creating an environmentally friendly design. The vessel specifications reflect our aim of ensuring reliable and efficient operation throughout the vessels’ lives.
