Almi Tankers obtains ISO 50001 certification!

Almi Tankers is proud to announce that it was certified with ISO 50001 by Lloyd’s Register, following the successful completion of the ISO 50001 external audit / Stage 2 at the end of April 2020.

ISO 50001 is designed to support organisations in all sectors providing a practical way to improve energy use, through the development of an energy management system (EnMS). The certification is for organisations committed to addressing their impact, conserving resources and improving the bottom line through efficient energy management.

The CEO, Cpt. Stylianos Dimouleas, thanked and congratulated the team for this success as ‘Consumption of natural resources is a great challenge worldwide. As you all know, we are committed to minimising our Company’s environmental impact by optimising our energy consumption aboard the vessels and ashore. Almi Tankers obtains ISO 27001 certification!

Almi Tankers is proud to announce that it is one of the first shipping companies in Greece to be certified with ISO 27001 by Lloyd’s Register, following the successful completion of the ISO 27001 external audit / Stage 2 earlier this month.

ISO/IEC 27001 specifies a management system that is intended to bring information security under management control and gives specific requirements.

Implementing an information security management system and gaining the ISO 27001 certification ensures there are processes and controls in place to protect our information assets and manage the threats posed from cyber-attacks.

The CEO, Cpt. Stylianos Dimouleas, thanked and congratulated the team for this success as “we are all affected by ISO 27001 requirements on a daily basis. It is a major step we took to ensure that a robust Information Management System and Cyber Security System are in place and in line with EU GDPR directives as well.”

ISO 27001 certification demonstrates a systematic, risk-based approach to managing the security of information assets. By implementing effective information security controls we continuously assess the risks and threats posed and drive the actions needed to manage them.

Almi Tankers’ continued participation in the Mariners’ Alerting and Reporting Scheme (MARS)

The Nautical Institute thanked Almi Tankers for its continued participation in the international and confidential Mariners’ Alerting and Reporting Scheme (MARS).

MARS is a free searchable database containing reports of accidents and near misses stretching back over a quarter of a century. Funded through the support of the Institute’s Nautical Affiliate partners, it is one of the maritime industry’s leading risk reduction initiatives and is helping to make life safer for seafarers everywhere.

As a free service to the industry, MARS reports also regularly comprise alerts condensed from official industry sources, so that issues resulting from recent incidents can be efficiently relayed to the mariner on board. With access to the internet from vessels becoming more affordable, the MARS database is a valuable risk assessment, work planning, loss prevention tool and training aid for crew and management.

Letter of Appreciation

Almi Tankers recognised by PSA Marine

Almi Tankers was recognised by PSA Marine, a leading marine services provider on towage and pilotage with flagship operations in Singapore, for our support towards navigational safety during our vessels’ transit of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS). This is yet another action taken by the Company in its commitment and continuous efforts towards achieving consistency in safety excellence and completing the trajectory to establishing a zero incidents regime.

SOMS is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore recognise the importance of the SOMS for international navigation and are committed to ensuring navigational safety, protecting its marine environment and facilitating safe transit of vessels through the SOMS. At the 43rd session of the Tripartite Technical Experts Group of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore on safety of navigation in the SOMS in Sep 2018, it was agreed amongst the littoral states that the Voluntary Pilotage Services (VPS) in the SOMS will take effect on 1 Jan 2019. The Guidelines state that VPS in the SOMS are to be provided by Straits Pilots certified by the relevant Authority in each littoral state for its own candidates. In Singapore, the relevant Authority is the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Since 2001, PSA Marine has been providing marine advisory services round-the-clock. Effective 1 Jan 2019, all their straits pilots meet the high standard certification criteria set by MPA and have been awarded with the Straits Pilot Certificate.

Almi Tankers awarded USCG Qualship 21 for Twelve Vessels

Almi Tankers S.A. is proud to announce that the Company was once again recognised by the United States Coast Guard for meeting the requirements of their Quality Shipping in the 21st Century programme, also known as Qualship 21, which identifies high-quality vessels and rewards them for their commitment to safety and quality. The U.S. Coast Guard implemented this initiative on January 1, 2001.

All our fleet vessels travelling through the US have been awarded with Qualship 21: Almi Atlas, Almi Explorer, Almi Galaxy, Almi Globe, Almi Horizon, Almi Odyssey, Almi Sky, Almi Spirit, Almi Star, Almi Sun, Almi Titan, Almi Voyager (M/T Almi Navigator is not part of the programme as she has had no USCG inspections in the past three years).

The flag of the vessel is one of the eligibility criteria and we are glad that the Liberian flag as flown by our vessels has once again become eligible.

It is worth mentioning that since the establishment of Almi Tankers back in 2009, the Company has had 48 USCG inspections, 46 of which were flawless while only two inspections with 3 minor observations were noted in the last 10 years. This gives us a ratio of 0,06 observations per inspection and almost 96% flawless results since our establishment.

Almi Tankers wishes to congratulate all our team members, both on board and ashore, for this great achievement especially since less than 20% of all foreign-flagged vessels that operate in the United States meet the strict eligibility requirements of this programme.
