Almi Tankers’ continued participation in the Mariners’ Alerting and Reporting Scheme (MARS)

The Nautical Institute thanked Almi Tankers for its continued participation in the international and confidential Mariners’ Alerting and Reporting Scheme (MARS).

MARS is a free searchable database containing reports of accidents and near misses stretching back over a quarter of a century. Funded through the support of the Institute’s Nautical Affiliate partners, it is one of the maritime industry’s leading risk reduction initiatives and is helping to make life safer for seafarers everywhere.

As a free service to the industry, MARS reports also regularly comprise alerts condensed from official industry sources, so that issues resulting from recent incidents can be efficiently relayed to the mariner on board. With access to the internet from vessels becoming more affordable, the MARS database is a valuable risk assessment, work planning, loss prevention tool and training aid for crew and management.

Letter of Appreciation

Almi Tankers recognised by PSA Marine

Almi Tankers was recognised by PSA Marine, a leading marine services provider on towage and pilotage with flagship operations in Singapore, for our support towards navigational safety during our vessels’ transit of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS). This is yet another action taken by the Company in its commitment and continuous efforts towards achieving consistency in safety excellence and completing the trajectory to establishing a zero incidents regime.

SOMS is one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore recognise the importance of the SOMS for international navigation and are committed to ensuring navigational safety, protecting its marine environment and facilitating safe transit of vessels through the SOMS. At the 43rd session of the Tripartite Technical Experts Group of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore on safety of navigation in the SOMS in Sep 2018, it was agreed amongst the littoral states that the Voluntary Pilotage Services (VPS) in the SOMS will take effect on 1 Jan 2019. The Guidelines state that VPS in the SOMS are to be provided by Straits Pilots certified by the relevant Authority in each littoral state for its own candidates. In Singapore, the relevant Authority is the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Since 2001, PSA Marine has been providing marine advisory services round-the-clock. Effective 1 Jan 2019, all their straits pilots meet the high standard certification criteria set by MPA and have been awarded with the Straits Pilot Certificate.

Almi Tankers awarded USCG Qualship 21 for Twelve Vessels

Almi Tankers S.A. is proud to announce that the Company was once again recognised by the United States Coast Guard for meeting the requirements of their Quality Shipping in the 21st Century programme, also known as Qualship 21, which identifies high-quality vessels and rewards them for their commitment to safety and quality. The U.S. Coast Guard implemented this initiative on January 1, 2001.

All our fleet vessels travelling through the US have been awarded with Qualship 21: Almi Atlas, Almi Explorer, Almi Galaxy, Almi Globe, Almi Horizon, Almi Odyssey, Almi Sky, Almi Spirit, Almi Star, Almi Sun, Almi Titan, Almi Voyager (M/T Almi Navigator is not part of the programme as she has had no USCG inspections in the past three years).

The flag of the vessel is one of the eligibility criteria and we are glad that the Liberian flag as flown by our vessels has once again become eligible.

It is worth mentioning that since the establishment of Almi Tankers back in 2009, the Company has had 48 USCG inspections, 46 of which were flawless while only two inspections with 3 minor observations were noted in the last 10 years. This gives us a ratio of 0,06 observations per inspection and almost 96% flawless results since our establishment.

Almi Tankers wishes to congratulate all our team members, both on board and ashore, for this great achievement especially since less than 20% of all foreign-flagged vessels that operate in the United States meet the strict eligibility requirements of this programme.

Almi Tankers is happy to announce that the Port of Long Beach presented the Company with the Green Flag Environmental Achievement Award.

The Port of Long Beach is the premier U.S. gateway for trans-Pacific trade and a trailblazer in innovative goods movement, safety, environmental stewardship and sustainability. As the second-busiest container seaport in the United States, the Port handles trade valued at more than $194 billion annually and supports 2.6 million trade-related jobs across the USA, more than 575,000 in Southern California.

The Port’s Green Flag Program is a voluntary vessel speed reduction program that rewards vessel operators for slowing down to 12 knots or less within 40 nautical miles (nm) of Point Fermin (near the entrance to the Harbor). Because the ships emit less when they travel more slowly, the program has been highly successful in reducing smog-forming emissions and diesel particulates from ships. In 2009, more than 90 percent of vessels participated in the program, slowing their ships in the 20 nm zone, while more than 70 percent slowed down within the 40 nm zone.

In return for their participation — at least 90 percent of the time in a calendar year — the vessel operators can earn dockage rate reductions, as well as help improve air quality in the greater Long Beach area.

Vessels that dock at the Port of Long Beach can also earn the coveted Green Flag environmental achievement award for extraordinary compliance with the program for a 12-month period.

The speed of every vessel in the speed reduction zone is measured and recorded by the Marine Exchange of Southern California. The program prevents more than 1,000 tons a year of air pollution.

Delivery of VLCC M/T Almi Titan

Almi Tankers S.A. is very proud to announce that on May 30th, 2018, the M/T Almi Titan, the second of the two VLCCs of its newbuilding project at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) was delivered to her owners at HSHI’s Mokpo shipyard.  This 315,299 DWT tanker was built to the highest industry standards.

The Almi Titan was designed in accordance with the latest regulations and industry requirements in order to satisfy our customers’ needs, therefore special emphasis was placed on delivering an environmentally friendly design. The vessel is among the most Eco-friendly ships worldwide, designed with our responsibility to safeguard the environment in mind.

Among other eco-friendly technologies on board, the Almi Titan is equipped with the HYUNDAI-B&W   7G80ME – C9.5 – EGRTC (Tier III) Green-type engine – she is one of the first vessels of her size with a Tier III engine. The G-type is an ultra long stroke engine, which, in conjunction with a larger diameter propeller, offers significant fuel savings and produces less emissions than engines with the same output, thus classifying it as one of the most environmentally efficient propulsion systems. The vessel is equipped with the Hyundai HiBallast HiB 6000ex Ballast Water Treatment System and is one of the first vessels worldwide fitted with a SOx Scrubber going above and beyond industry requirements in a constant effort to anticipate and satisfy customer needs.

Almi Tankers recognises the need to consistently and continuously improve performance, especially in environmental issues. Therefore, all vessels in Almi Tankers’ fleet will always be equipped with top of the line technologies to enhance safety and ensure the best possible protection of the environment. The vessel specifications reflect Almi Tankers’ aim of ensuring reliable and efficient operation throughout the vessel’s life.

The Almi Titan flies the Liberian flag and is classed under DNV-GL.
